My Fitness Philosophy
Everyone has a right to health, happiness, and personal empowerment through fitness. The only resources needed to achieve it are knowledge and effort.
I struggled with obesity and health issues my entire childhood and adolescence. A healthy body never came naturally for me. There was a lot of trial and error for the first several years, which helped me to be a better personal trainer today.
Growing up, my family didn’t know much about good nutrition or balanced diets (though I wouldn’t trade them for the world, and they’re nothing but loving and well-intended). As soon as I moved away from home, I began studying nutrition in my free time. Living abroad as an English teacher also gave me a fresh perspective on how to balance a healthy diet and allowed me to practice maintaining a healthy diet in different environments.
In my early 20’s, I learned about strength, flexibility, and fitness in functional ways as a rugby player. I sustained a good deal of injuries from five years of rugby playing and then three years of roller derby immediately after that. This is why I gravitated toward helping clients avoid or prevent injury.
I know from experience what it’s like to go through a health and fitness transformation. I’ll never forget feeling trapped, unhealthy, and unhappy in my own body before that. I wanted to be a personal trainer to help others empower themselves and feel better than ever. Now, I want to support my clients as someone who understands (and personally remembers) what they’re going through while giving them actionable solutions.
What is your favorite workout or exercise style?
I enjoy bodyweight, calisthenics, and plyometrics moves. For fun, I also love bicycling and my hula hoop.
What is your favorite food?
If not a New York deli style egg sandwich (I’m a New York native), then a falafel wrap with extra yogurt sauce.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Karaoke, preferably with songs that involve screaming or rapping. “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys is my all-time favorite.
