The ketogenic diet features meals that are incredibly low-carb with moderate amounts of protein and high amounts of dietary fat. After a week or so, this combination brings the body into a state of ketosis where it’s burning fat for energy because it doesn’t have carbs (or sugars) to call on. For some, this is an effective way to lose weight. But, for most, it’s a difficult diet to sustain over time because of strict guidelines.
