If you’ve finally gotten into a good routine with eating well and working out, you’re probably feeling happy and confident that – at last – your consistency and hard work are paying off and you’re starting to see the results you’ve been waiting for. But the flip side of that solid routine is that now, upcoming travel plans might bring a little dread. You may ask yourself, “How am I going to be able to work out!?” “How will I continue with my progress!?”

Don’t panic! We are here to guide you through any travel scenario with tips to stay fit wherever you are. Read on to learn how to find a healthy lifestyle that’s a happy and balanced one, with plenty of room to enjoy vacation and travel without backsliding in your progress.

Consistency is key, but that doesn’t mean you’re limited

Wherever you are on your health and fitness journey, consistency is key to achieving and maintaining results. But this doesn’t mean you’re limited to how you get there. Of course, it’s fantastic to have a good routine that works for you and that you can stick to in your day-to-day life. That said, healthy lifestyle is about maintaining balance, and as soon as you start feeling too restricted (if you feel guilty about missing a day at the gym, for example, or feel unable to engage in other aspects life because of the routine), that balance is disrupted.

Here are my top tips to ensure you stay on track with your fitness routine wherever you are and that you keep your mind and body balance in check.

1. Get active by exploring the new surroundings

This is a great way to explore the place that you are in, while staying active. If you’re on a beach holiday, enjoy a long stroll/run by the beach. If you’re in a city break, stroll around the city seeing the sights. This is such an enjoyable way to get your steps in and have fun while doing it.

I was recently in Thailand and I would get up just as the sun was rising each morning to have a long walk on the beach while listening to my favorite music. That way, I know I’m building healthy movement into my day while still making time to enjoy the scenery and relax.

2. Look for local gyms and classes

Wherever you go in the world, the chances are high that there’ll be a local gym or even a fun new exercise class that you can try out to stay active during your trip. Many gyms and studios offer discounted prices or even offer a free trial if it’s your first time. If you’re on a business trip and staying in a hotel, check to see if your hotel has a gym that you can use. Travel schedules can be hectic, but even 20 minutes of activity – like an 8fit HIIT workout or two – will help make sure you’re still feeling great post-vacay.

3. Take light equipment with you

Resistance bands are my go-to travel accessory – they’re light, compact and easily fit in hand luggage. With a band in tow, I know I’ll be able to incorporate some strengthening workouts into my day, no matter where I am. If you can fit them in your luggage, a skipping rope and super-light yoga mat are great travel buddies too. With some equipment at-hand, you can squeeze in an inventive and effective workout, wherever you are. The equipment might also serve as a handy physical reminder of your intention to stay active during the trip.

4. Download a fitness app

Having a workout at your fingertips via a fitness app on your phone ensures you’re ready and able to get in a workout at a moment’s notice, with or without a gym. I might be biased, but I think the 8fit app is a perfect tool, thanks to short yet effective HIIT workouts you can do anywhere, without equipment!

5. Most importantly don’t stress and have fun!

Keeping fit is important, however, there are always ways to ensure you keep your body active. Make the most out of certain situations and do what you can at that time. You might not always be able to do your favorite class or go to the gym, but there are always ways in which you can keep your body active.

It’s important not to stress and try and aim to take each moment as it comes. I promise you if you take a deep breath and follow the tips above you will be able to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle wherever you are. So, no more stress just enjoy your trip away.
