It’s time to kick off week 12 of the #8fitChallenge. Can you believe it?! Feel proud knowing you’re stronger, fitter and you must feel amazing! During week 11, you focused portion control and this week we’re talking about functional movement.

What are functional movements

As you might’ve noticed, the 8fit workouts in the app and during our live sessions require no equipment, but you’ll still get results. Our workouts use functional, bodyweight movements because it mirrors how humans are designed to move. Functional movement trains movements, not muscles, and helps keep us strong as we age.

The most functional movement is the squat.  It engages the largest muscles in our body and is one of the most practical movements in our daily life since it mimics actions like sitting in a chair or picking up a heavy box from the ground.

When you squat, always use your legs and glutes, not your back (learn how to squat here).

Weekly challenge

This week’s challenge is to post a photo or a video of your functional squat on Instagram and tag a friend to do the same thing! Don’t forget to add #8fitChallenge and #8fit to your caption.

Tune in next Monday on Instagram for the weekly winner and we’ll see you on Thursday for our live 8fit workout!
