What is keto?
In short, following a ketogenic diet – keto, for short — means reducing your carbohydrate intake. To be more precise, it means not eating more than 20 to 30 grams ofnet carbs per day. Net carbs are calculated by taking the total amount of carbohydrates and subtracting indigestible carbs like fiber and sugar alcohol. If you plan to follow a keto diet, your macronutrient breakdown will look something like this:
Fat: 70-75% of calories
Protein: 20-25% of calories
Carbs: 5-10% of calories
What are the benefits of a ketogenic diet?
Weight loss is a major benefit of ketogenic diets. Insulin levels are lower and the body is able to burn more stored fats. It can also be helpful for those struggling to control their blood sugar levels or for those with cognitive impairments, such as brain damage, epilepsy, and symptoms of Alzheimer’s.
It’s best that keto diets are calculated individually and followed under strict medical supervision. As always, consult your physician before starting any diet or exercise program, especially if you have any preexisting conditions
Sesame Banana Smoothie
Recipe time! We love Naked Nutrition supplements because they have no additives or artificial sweeteners. The ingredient lists are simple and there are no mystery ingredients. This is true for the Naked Keto fat bomb supplement we recently added to one of our favorite smoothies in the 8fit recipe book: The Chunky Sesame Banana Smoothie. Let’s get right to it.
2 tsp almond butter, plain and unsweetened (or other nut butter)
1 banana (frozen is best for a smooth, creamy texture)
1 cup almond milk (or other milk)
1 tsp raw cocoa powder
1 tsp sesame seeds
1 scoop Naked Keto (or protein powder)
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
