Join July’s Charity Class to Support Black Girls CODE
Were you one of the participants in our Instagram Live charity class with Mel Douglas and our lead trainer Emily last month, where we meditated and got into an invigorating yoga flow? 8fit matched each of the donations made by all of you awesome 8fitters to support the National Bailout—an organization focused on bailing out black mothers so they are safe at home with their families.
If you missed it, the good news is that there are many more to come. As suggested by Glenna, a rockstar on our engineering team who you may have seen during her recent Instagram takeover, we’re making the donation-based classes a monthly thing and will support Black Girls CODE in July.
What is the charity class, and how do I join?
We host a donation-based workout on Instagram each month to support a charity doing great work. For July, Emily leads a 40-minute boxing-yoga class to support Black Girls CODE. To join, you simply need to join the Instagram Live on the @8fit account when the class starts, or check it out later on IGTV. Before joining the class, we ask you to make a donation to that month’s chosen charity—as much as you can afford—and 8fit will match every donation you make.
When is the next class?
Monday, July 20 at 4 pm CEST (Berlin time), 10 am EST (New York time). The class will be saved on IGTV after, so you can catch it later if you’re busy at that time.
How do donations work?
Donate here, then send us a screenshot of your donation confirmation via direct message on Instagram. We’ll keep track of every donation you send to us, matching the amount of all donations shared with us until midnight (CEST) on Tuesday, July 21.
What is Black Girls CODE?
Black Girls CODE is devoted to showing the world that Black girls can code, and do so much more. By reaching out to underrepresented communities through workshops and after school programs, Black Girls CODE equips girls between the ages of seven and 17, a time when they are naturally thinking about their future careers, with the knowledge and skills needed to play a vital role in a new generation of coders creating technological innovation and brighter futures for the tech industry and themselves.
Is the class open to everyone?
Yes, the class is open to 8fitters and non-8fitters, all you need is an Instagram account. The more donations we match, the more the charities can benefit, so invite your friends, family, and colleagues.
