As the festive season approaches, for some of us we use it as an excuse to eat what we like, party as much as want and binge watch the latest series on Netflix. We promise ourselves that come January we will put in the hard work to burn off those extra pounds and to finally commit to getting into shape. However, why not make it easier for ourselves? With a pinch of self discipline and a sprinkle of motivation, exercise will ensure that we enter the new year feeling fit and fabulous rather than fat and frumpy.
With all those tasty treats lying around and temptation lurking round every corner, it makes it especially hard, even for those with the best intentions to stay focused and on track. However, have no fear, for exercise is here to save the day! Exercise is a great way to burn off those extra calories we demolish over the season and better yet, you don’t even have to spend hours slogging away at the gym to get the benefits. Simply doing an effective HIIT style workout, will help burn the calories and help raise your metabolic rate for the next 24-48 hours. This will ensure that some of the indulgences you ate earlier that day are turned into energy and burnt off, rather than stored.
Sounds too good to be true?
Unlike the devastating moment where you find out Santa isn’t real, there are no tricks or gimmicks with exercise. The way that exercise highers your metabolic rate, especially after HIIT is called the afterburn effect. When you perform exercise at a high intensity, just like the 8fit workouts, your body is left in an oxygen deficit, (this is the reason why you pant). In order to regain that oxygen your body has to work harder for the next 24-48 hours to repay the debt and thus more calories are burnt. So, apart from getting your fitter, stronger and healthier, exercise will help play a handy role in helping you burn off those unwanted calories from all those tasty treats.
For the best results aim to work out at least 4 times a week. This will ensure your metabolism is kept high and that you go from strength to strength.
So, what are you waiting for? Open the 8fit app and start working out today. Remember, “I really regret that workout”, said no one ever!
