After last year, the time has come to look more at ourselves again. We feel empty, stressed and under pressure. Between time management and family, it's not always easy to look after yourself. So what can you do when the beach and vacation are no options?

1. Train your body

A daily exercise routine helps tremendously against stress and bad moods. You don't have to run a marathon or go to Crossfit every day, but any kind of regular exercise helps: For example, the HIIT program, biking to work every day, yoga, or even a stretch routine. And don't forget: Stay hydrated - drink enough water, because it's essential for a healthy daily routine.

2. Nourish your body

Good, quality food is a gamechanger. Everything we do is done by our body and it takes its energy from what we give it. So your food choices are essential to your energy levels. A combination of carbohydrates and high quality proteins is ideal. This provides a slow, steady release of fuel, balanced sugar levels, and consistent energy stores.

Here are some examples of complex carbohydrate and protein sources you should consider:

High-quality carbohydrates

  • Barley

  • Beans

  • Brown rice

  • Fruit

  • Peas

  • Vegetables

  • whole grains, bread and pasta

  • Wild rice

High protein

  • Chicken breast (without skin)

  • Eggs

  • Lean beef

  • Lean ham

  • Low fat dairy products made from goat/sheep milk

  • Nuts & peanut butter

  • Tofu

  • Turkey

3. Train your mind

The way you start your morning can make or break your day. Your mind plays an important role in shaping your day. The way you think and perceive your personal environment affects your energy level.

Stay away from electronic devices for at least the first hour after waking up. By avoiding e-mail and social media, your day begins with a clear head that is not affected by the perceptions, demands or needs of others.

Spend three to five minutes meditating. Your body's response to stress is fatigue, and although meditation is called a calming activity, it can boost your energy over time. And your day starts with rest.

No problem with the right outfit

Everything you do should make you feel good. In order to overcome your inner weakness, it helps to have comfortable activewear. This way you feel more active and agile and already it's easier to dive into the routine.
